Help for excessive underarm sweating
Excessive underarm sweating, known medically as axillary hyperhidrosis, is when the sweat glands produce far more sweat than your body needs to stay cool. It can soak through clothing, happen in cool weather and make everyday life feel harder. It is a recognised medical condition, and treatment options are available.
At A Aesthetics, your care starts with a face-to-face consultation with our doctor or one of our nurse prescribers. They will review your symptoms and medical history, check for anything that needs further investigation, and talk you through the options, including the alternatives. Where a prescription treatment is appropriate, it is only ever prescribed after this consultation.
Who this consultation is for
This consultation is for people whose underarm sweating is heavy, persistent and not controlled by antiperspirants. We will talk through your symptoms and what you have already tried.
How we approach underarm sweating
Sweat glands are switched on by nerve signals, and in hyperhidrosis those signals are more active than they need to be. Our starting point is understanding why.
A proper medical assessment
We ask when the sweating started, what triggers it and how it affects your day, and we check for signs that it may be linked to another condition or a medicine.
Your options explained
We talk through the approaches that may suit you, from self-care and antiperspirants to treatment in clinic, with the benefits, limits and risks of each.
A plan you are comfortable with
You decide what happens next, with no pressure. If treatment with us is not right for you, we will say so and point you in the right direction.
Your consultation, step by step
Consultation
A doctor or nurse prescriber reviews your symptoms and medical history face to face. Your consultation is complimentary.
Assessment
We look at where and when you sweat most, what you have already tried, and whether anything suggests an underlying cause that should be checked first.
Your options
We explain the options that are suitable for you, what each involves and what you can realistically expect, so you can make an informed choice.
Follow-up
If you go ahead with treatment, we arrange a review to check how you are getting on and answer any questions.

Excessive underarm sweating FAQs
What happens at the consultation?
You sit down with our doctor or one of our nurse prescribers, who will ask about your symptoms, your medical history and what you have already tried. You leave with an honest plan, which may or may not include treatment with us.
Is the consultation free?
Yes. Your consultation is complimentary, with no obligation to book anything afterwards.
What treatment options might be discussed?
That depends on your assessment. We will talk through the options that are suitable for you, including self-care and the alternatives. Some options are prescription-only, and these can only be offered after a face-to-face consultation with a prescriber.
Could my sweating have an underlying cause?
Sometimes. Heavy sweating can occasionally be linked to another condition or a medicine, particularly if it started suddenly, affects the whole body or happens at night. Our medical team checks your history carefully and will tell you if anything needs further investigation first.
Is treatment suitable for everyone?
No. Suitability depends on your medical history, any medication you take, and whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Treatments are for adults aged 18 and over, and our medical team will only recommend something if it is right for you.
How do I book?
Start with a complimentary consultation at our Coleraine or Derry/Londonderry clinic, or call us on 028 7051 2101.
