Help for neck and shoulder tension
Many people carry tension in the trapezius, the large muscle that runs from the neck across the top of the shoulders. Stress, long hours at a desk and posture can leave it tight and overactive, which may contribute to neck ache, stiffness and tension headaches. You can read more about neck pain and muscle tension.
At A Aesthetics, your care starts with a face-to-face consultation in Coleraine or Derry/Londonderry with our doctor or one of our nurse prescribers. They will assess your neck and shoulders, review your history and what you have already tried, and talk you through the options. Where a prescription treatment is appropriate, it is only ever prescribed after this consultation.
Who this consultation is for
This consultation is aimed at pain and tension from tight, overactive muscles, rather than injuries or problems with the spine. We will ask about your symptoms to make sure it is the right approach for you.
How we approach neck pain
When the trapezius stays tight for long periods, it can pull on the neck and shoulders and feel sore. Our starting point is understanding why it is happening.
A proper medical assessment
We ask about your work, stress and sleep, and how the tension affects your day.
Building on what already helps
Movement, posture changes and physiotherapy are the foundation for most neck pain, so anything we suggest is designed to sit alongside them.
A plan you are comfortable with
You decide what happens next, with no pressure. If treatment with us is not right for you, we will say so and point you in the right direction.

Neck pain FAQs
What happens at the consultation?
You sit down with our doctor or one of our nurse prescribers, who will ask about your symptoms, your medical history and what you have already tried. You leave with an honest plan, which may or may not include treatment with us.
Is the consultation free?
Yes. Your consultation is complimentary, with no obligation to book anything afterwards.
What treatment options might be discussed?
That depends on your assessment. We will talk through the options that are suitable for you, including self-care and the alternatives. Some options are prescription-only, and these can only be offered after a face-to-face consultation with a prescriber.
Will it help every kind of neck pain?
No. This consultation is aimed at pain and tension from tight, overactive muscles. If your symptoms suggest an injury or a problem with the spine or nerves, such as numbness or weakness in your arms, we will tell you and advise you on where to get the right help.
Is treatment suitable for everyone?
No. Suitability depends on your medical history, any medication you take, and whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Treatments are for adults aged 18 and over, and our medical team will only recommend something if it is right for you.
How do I book?
Start with a complimentary consultation at our Coleraine or Derry/Londonderry clinic, or call us on 028 7051 2101.
